Powder Ridge, and particularly Berner Haus, is in a great location. The views seriously cannot be beat, and you've got some great hiking and mountain biking trails at your front door, and Sunday River just a walk or short bike ride away. You've got to love that! It is located on 6 private acres of land abutting several hundred acres of forested land. Pay per view movies are available on the Direct TV system. There are also videotapes and a VCR, DVDs and 2 players, Playstation 2 with games, cards, stocked library, computers with internet access, rafts, beach and picnic equipment, foosball, air hockey, pool, and board games for your entertainment. And of course the hot tubs and steam rooms. It is fabulous!
Although you are likely not going to want to leave the luxury and amenities of the Haus, don't forget all the other things the area has to offer! For starters, share our membership at the new Trent Jones Sunday River Golf Course, saving 50% off green fees, enjoying preferred tee times and other membership privileges. The Golf Club, located 2 miles from the house is said to be one of the top in the country and best in New England even just opening this past summer! Other fun things to do in the area in the spring include spring skiing, the Bethel Championship golf course, swimming at one of the many lakes and rivers in the area, boating (kayaks, row boats, motor boats, electric boats, float boats, canoes are all available for rent), white water rafting (1/2 hr drive), miniature golf, laser tag, paint ball, water slides, indoor rock climbing, glow in the dark bowling, arcade, hard core rock climbing, hiking, 4-wheeling on the old logging roads, movie theater, roller blading or skate boarding at Sunday River's park, apple and pumpkin picking, moose and wildlife safaris, fishing, and of course, Sunday River's famous Mountain Biking. Take the lift up, and bike down. It’s a blast! In the nearby White Mountains, enjoy the cog railway, the Mt. Washington autoroad, Six Gun City, Story Land, the caverns, outlet shopping and tons more. Enjoy whale watching and all that the beautiful Maine coast has to offer about an hour away. This is definitely a great place to be for fun and relaxing outdoor activities.
In early spring/late winter, from your door of Berner Haus, you can enjoy miles some of the East's best-groomed snow mobile and cross-country ski trails, backcountry skiing and snowshoeing. Within a 5 minute drive, you can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, telemarking, snow tubing, ice skating, dog sledding, skijoring, horse drawn carriage rides, fine dining and weekend family shows hosted by the Mountain. Within a 10-minute drive you can enjoy indoor rock climbing, laser tag, a movie theater, skiing at Mt. Abram, and shopping in the quaint Bethel village. Within a 45 minute drive you can hike Mt. Washington's Tuckerman's Ravine for some extreme backcountry skiing, ice climb, shop the outlets in North Conway, take the Cog Railway to the top of Mt. Washington to experience what extreme weather really is, and view hundreds of miles of Maine and New Hampshire from one spot. Visit Storybook Land or The Old West. Shop in Gorham's charming village.
Bed arrangements include 3 kings, 3 queens, 4 queen sleeper sofas (two of which are in the private movie theater room that makes a great sleeping area for kids and teens), 7 twins, 2 full sized portable twins and a full size portable queen for optional use in the loft, and a pack & play crib. The kitchen and bar are stocked to help make you feel at home and provide you with more time to relax. We will send you a bar/pantry/meal selection list so you don’t have to spend any of your valuable family vacation time grocery shopping or even cooking if you don’t want to! Daily housekeeping and chef services are available at your request for an additional charge. Our goal is to provide you with the most relaxing and luxurious vacation possible.
We built and furnished this home for ourselves. When we left and decided to share it with others, we left everything behind except for our personal things. Therefore you will truly find this a home away from home, with everything from spices to breadmaker to full CD library to supple leather sofas. This will be especially well appreciated in the kitchen where all your basic cooking supplies are already there along with a gourmet’s selection of appliances and cookware. We even have baby and toddler supplies for your use.
